Mazuma Mobile Stadium: Morecambe
Globe Arena is one of the most modern and refreshing stadiums in the Football League. Currently known as the Mazuma Mobile stadium due to sponsorship, it has been the home of Morecambe Football Club since it opened in 2010 and is state of the art for a ground in one of the lower leagues. It can hold up to 6,476 supporters, though it has yet to be pushed to its full capacity.
The ground replaced Morecambe’s much loved home, Christie Park. The Shrimps played there for just shy of 90 years and enjoyed some incredible times at the ground, but it was showing its age by 2010 and a new stadium was much needed. The ground was supposed to open with a showpiece friendly against Bolton Wanderers on the 28th of July 2010 but the opening was delayed because of problems putting the finishing touches to the stadium.

About Morecambe
Whisper it quietly as the locals aren’t too happy to hear it, but Morecambe have often lived in the shadow of their neighbours, Blackpool. Unlike The Tangerines they have never played in the top-flight, but that’s not to say that The Shrimps have not enjoyed their own brand of success over the years. Formed on the 7th of May 1920, Morecambe began life sharing ground with the local cricket club.
They built steadily over the coming years, with local derby matches drawing in over 3000 spectators. This success was particularly evident in the post-war period, culminating in a Lancashire Senior Cup Final win in 1968. Later, in 1974, the club won the FA Trophy by beating Dartford at Wembley. The most successful day in the club’s history came on the 20th May 2007 when they won the Conference Playoff Final to gain promotion to the Football League for the first time.
Mazuma Mobile Stadium History
Having shared Wood Hill Lane with Morecambe’s cricket club for the first year of the football team’s existence, Morecambe Football Club moved to Roseberry Park in 1921. The club president, JB Christie, purchased the ground outright a few years later and it was renamed Christie Park in his honour. In the end, though, it started to show its age and when the club was promoted to the Football League in 2007 an announcement was made that they would play their home games elsewhere from the start of the 2009-2010 season.
Globe Arena, named after the construction company that built it, suffered numerous delays that set its official opening back by more than a year. In the end it opened in August of 2010 in time for the 2010-2011 season. As well as having four stands around the sides of the pitch, the stadium also boasts a community block that houses a gym and the club’s ticket office.
Future Developments
As the stadium is still relatively new, there are unlikely to be any major changes taking place in the foreseeable future.
